Traditional dental implants

You need to undergo two separate surgical procedures when it comes to traditional dental implants.

The jawbone needs time to heal and grow around the implanted metal screw and secure it to the jaw. This healing takes about three to six months. Your dentist usually places a temporary porcelain cap called a crown on the screw as protection and ease of eating.

Your dentist will have your artificial teeth or crown ready to place atop the implant to look and function like your natural teeth. Unlike dentures, you cannot remove the implant to clean or replace it. It is permanently attached to the screw.
