Meet Dr. Thomas M. Gilbert

Dr. Thomas M. Gilbert, D.D.S.

Fort Wayne native, Dr. Gilbert, graduated from Homestead High School in 1987. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1991. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1995. Dr. Gilbert enjoys all aspects of general and family dentistry with a special interest in implant and advanced restorative dentistry. He has completed advanced training in complex restorative dentistry at the prestigious Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Studies. He also has advanced training in oral implantology in the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants, completing the full externship in implant placement at the renowned Midwest Implant Institute. He routinely places dental implants in our practice, enabling our patients to replace teeth from start to finish in our office. With his advanced training and comfortable manner with patients, Dr. Gilbert is able to complete complex dental procedures in our comfortable office setting.

Dr. Gilbert is heavily involved in organized dentistry, holding many leadership positions. He is a member of the Indiana Dental Association, the Issac Knapp District Dental Society of which he is a past president, the Academy of General Dentistry, and Xi Psi Phi Dental Fraternity. He is a fellow at the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Both of these organizations are by invitation only to dentists representing the highest level of leadership and ethics in our profession. Dr. Gilbert also volunteers his time treating patients in need from the Donated Dental Services of Indiana. In his free time, Dr. Gilbert is an avid runner and pickleball player and enjoys spending time with his wife Amy, and his two sons Mitch and Kyle.

Dr. Gilbert believes that educating others and learning himself go hand in hand. He has been a member of the faculty at Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne and Indiana University Dental School for over 20 years. He is currently a dental director of the dental hygiene patient interaction clinic at Indiana University Dental School in Fort Wayne. He oversees a 15 operatory clinic on Wednesdays educating students and providing dental knowledge to patients. "It is my fun job on Wednesdays where I get to share my many years of dental experience with the next generation of dental professionals. Every day I learn something new from my experience of working with dental hygiene students and their treating patients. It helps me be a better dentist by working in an education center with talented, bright new students of our profession."
